School and Virtual Visits

Thank you for your interest in booking a school or library visit with me! I am open to doing in-school visits in central Alberta and virtual visits anywhere.

What you get:

• A 45-60 minute visit. This presentation runs about 25-30 minutes, and I leave time for a 10-minute reading and a Q&A period after. Kids usually have tons of great questions!

Topics covered:

• Who I am and my writing journey. This includes resilience, growth, and why rejection letters are not a bad thing.

• My writing process, from brainstorming to the final edits.

• How the writing and publishing process relates to what students have to do in school with their writing assignments.

• Tips and tricks for generating story ideas, getting over writer’s block, dealing with critique, and how to critique for your friends.

If we are doing an in-person visit, I always bring bookmarks for everyone. If you are interested, we can arrange for students to order copies of Ghosts of Gastown ahead of time. I can bring them with me and sign them at the presentation.

For virtual visits, if you are interested, we can arrange for an order of books through my publisher ahead of time. I can then mail you personalized, signed book plates for each student who orders a book (along with free bookmarks for each student in the class).

I will provide order forms for you.

My fees:

• In-person: $250 for one 45-60 minute visit.

  • $150 for each extra session, up to four sessions total per day.

• Virtual: $150 for the full presentation done through Google or Zoom.
